When we travelled to Malaysia to meet the masters
In April 2026 we travelled to Kuala Lumpur to visit Royal Selangor's factory and headquarters — and it became the start of something we are very proud of. We walked through the workshops, met the artisans who cast and polish every single product, and quickly understood why Royal Selangor is considered the world's foremost pewtersmith.
After two days of in-depth conversations and a factory tour we signed an official distribution agreement. Dano thereby became the exclusive Norwegian distributor of Royal Selangor — an agreement we carry with great humility and pride.
What we bring home from Kuala Lumpur is not just the products — it is an understanding of what genuine craftsmanship means. Every time you receive an order from Dano, we know that behind that object lies over 140 years of knowledge, tradition and pride from Malaysia to Norway.
The craft behind every product
Royal Selangor uses 92% pure pewter — among the purest in the world. Every product goes through a process combining traditional techniques from 1885 with modern precision.
Casting
Molten pewter is poured into moulds — either spin casting for round objects, or gravity casting for detailed figurines and sculptures.
Finishing
Excess metal is removed by hand, edges are ground and the surface polished until smooth and perfect. Every piece is individually inspected.
Assembly
Components are soldered together by experienced artisans. Details such as engravings and textures are added — often by hand with traditional tools.
About pewter
Pewter is a natural element that has been used for over 3,500 years. Royal Selangor's alloy consists of 92% tin, 6% antimony and 2% copper — a composition that gives beautiful lustre, durability and food safety. The products are lead-free, safe to drink from, and keep drinks colder longer than glass or ceramic.
